Dithiophosphate IBS or Sodium Diisobutyl Dithiophosphate has a yellowish and dark brown coloured appearance. It comes in a stable liquid form which has no strong smell. It has a PH level of 10 to 13.

Chemical application and strength

Dithiophosphate IBS, also known as Sodium Diisobutyl Dithiophosphate, serves as an effective collector for nickel, activated zinc minerals, and copper ores. Mining companies also use it in gold-recovery plants because it can improve the recovery of precious metals under suitable flotation conditions.

Operators use Dithiophosphate IBS to depress iron sulfides in alkaline flotation circuits that require a high pH. This property makes the reagent suitable for selective flotation applications where operators need to separate iron sulfides from valuable minerals.

Dithiophosphate IBS also supports the recovery of refractory gold associated with sulfide matrices. Compared with many other sulfide collectors, operators generally require only a small quantity of the reagent to achieve effective flotation.

The reagent provides strong collecting power and can improve precious-metal recovery. However, it has relatively low frothing activity, so operators typically use it together with a separate frothing agent when the flotation circuit requires sufficient froth formation and stability.

Dithiophosphate IBS acts as a strong and fast collector while providing good selectivity compared with several other thiol collectors. Compared with many xanthates, it can provide particularly useful selectivity against iron sulfides in alkaline flotation circuits.
